We have several employees using Thunderbird (including myself) for their work email. Read and sending messages has been working fine, but copying or moving messages from local folders to the server does not seem to work. If I attempt to move or copy 1 message at a time, this works fine most of the time. If I select multiple messages, it fails after copying one or two, complains that the login failed and requests the user's password again. I have tried this with Thunderbird v1.5.0.9 and v3 alpha 1 (20070206) and see the same results. As a test, I tried to perform the same operations on another mail server (running Courier-IMAP) using both versions of Thunderbird, and they completed with no problems.

I have tried disabling the use of IDLE in Thunderbird, as well as setting the maximum connections to 1.

Has anyone run across this problem before?

I've run into this when I was trying to move all of my email off an old computer.  I had downloaded the email using POP and tried to move it into IMAP folders so it'd be back on the server.  Got that same error message consistently and in the end was so frustrated I just gave up and backed all the email up onto CD instead.  I had WAY too much email to move it message by message.

I also have a lot of issues when sending email with Thunderbird - it sends, but I often get an error message saying it was unable to copy the message to the sent folder.  But then it shows up in the sent folder anyway.  Weird.  Using Thunderbird 1.5.0.9.

Would love a solution to both issues if anyone has one!

Casey

I wanted to update this thread now that SmarterMail has been upgraded to v4. I have attempted to copy some messages to the new v4 SmarterMail server and I get the same result.

For what it's worth, I have the same problem using Entourage 2004 when trying to copy multiple messages from my local folders to my crystaltech imap folders.

What's the point of migrating to a service that gives you GBs of storage if you can't upload your messages?

Frustrated,

It seems everyone is able to move *one* message at a time.

However, what we want to be able to do is drag *multiple* messages all at once.

I just moved two, at once, to and from...

Is this a game?  Wink

I've had this problem trying to move 100 messages... breaking it down to chunks of 10 or 20 seems to work, but not in "large" chunks.

Yes I can move around 1-4 messages at once and usually not get a problem.  If I move 10-20, much less hundreds, it's always a problem.

We need a workaround for this so a user (i.e., me) can upload mail from another mail account.

Any ideas?

I have the exact problem you describe. It only appears to be an issue with CrystalTech's IMAP server - all my other mail servers work just fine moving multiple message in Thunderbird. I have written to support before without any resolution, or even an answer as to why this happens. Has anyone discovered a fix for this, or can we have an explanation to this problem?

I cannot copy more than 2 messages at a time using Thunderbird and IMAP.

The most annoying part is if I try to send 3 messages in quick succession (i.e. 'copy' 3 messages to the sent folder), I get the "Login to server failed message".

Yes, we need an official fix for this problem.

I want to upload many messages to my crystaltech account.

We also need to fix the problem whereby, once you upload old messages, they are all listed as being received on the date you uploaded them (rather than the date they were really originally sent).

If such a change were made, the date setting should be an option at the user account level. When moving messages, I, for one, wouldn't want to lose the original date information.

Edit: I misread that. You are asking to preserve the original date as well. I agree. An option setting would probably still be the way to go.

Just curious, has any progress been made on this subject? I am now in the process of moving from one CT IMAP email account to another, and moving all my saved messages is a real pain just a couple at a time!
