Setting up your iPhone to use email with Crystaltech
« on: August 28, 2008, 02:57:29 PM »
I have created this walk through for setting up email on your iPhone. Thanks to some screen shots I found online and information provided from other post, specifically to Ted Parton (tparton) for this post HERE.

1. Tap "Settings"

2. Tap "Mail"

3. Tap "Add Account..."

4. Tap "Other"

5. Tap "POP"

6. Enter this Information in the screen; Examples are below each entries description --For the examples we'll assume my Name is Georges S. and my email address is georges@crystaltech.com and the password is 'icandoit'--

Name: <your Name>
ex.  Name: Georges S.
Address: <Your Email address>
ex.  Address: georges@crystaltech.com
Description: <1 line description of the mail account>
ex.  Descriptions: My crystaltech email

-Incoming Mail Server-
Host Name: <Mail server address; mail.(yourdomain.com)>
ex.  Host Name: mail.crystaltech.com
User Name: <login username; (your mail account@your domain name)
ex.  User Name: georges@crystaltech.com
Password: <Your mail password>
ex.  Password: icandoit (will display as just dots)

-Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)- (all the same as the fist section)
Host Name: <Mail server address; mail.(yourdomain.com)>
ex.  Host Name: mail.crystaltech.com
User Name: <login username; (your mail account@your domain name)
ex.  User Name: georges@crystaltech.com
Password: <Your mail password>
ex.  Password: icandoit (will display as just dots)

7. Tap "Save"

8. Back at the main screen repeat steps 1 and 2.

9. Click on your new Mail account (ex. My crystaltech email) (should appear above "Add Account...")

10. Scroll down and Tap "Advanced"

11. Use the following options;

-Incoming Settings-
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password > (some recommend using the "MD5 Challenge-Response")
Server Port: 110

-Outgoing Settings-
Use SSL: Off
Authentication: Password
Server Port: 8889

12. Save the settings and you should be all set to start receiving emails.

Note: There are many more settings that the iPhone has for emails but that is beyond the scope of this tutorial. Please check your manual for further details on these settings.

I wonder if anyone has tested push email with SM 5.5 on the iphone or BB Bold.  I need to upgrade my phone soon and not sure which one I should get.

I have had my iPhone set up with 5.5 through a dedicated for a few months now.  Everything seems to work/sync great... no complaints.  I have never had a Blackberry, so I can't throw a comparison out there for you.  I can only say that a couple of us here have iPhones and we love them.

I ended up getting the new Palm Pre and it's an amazing phone.  Supposedly, it will sync calendar, contacts, and email over the air with gmail or exchange and soon yahoo I think.  I wonder if that will ever be possible with smarter mail?  I know I can set up imap to poll the server every 10 minutes or so but that's not as nice.

I followed the instructions in post 1 but I still get a message CANNOT SEND MAIL.  This is a new 3s. Does Crystal Tech support Push?

ActiveSync section

Any ETA on 6.x coming out and CT pushing it to the mail servers?  I take this won't be a free piece for CT users more of a add on per month/year?

Currently I have outlook setup as a IMAP for my domain.  My gmail account does google sync calendar for my home calendar and secondary consultant calendar.  Right now I export contacts from outlook and import into gmail.

Could the SyncML basically take care of all this?
